Well Newcastle Gateshead was grounded in local communities and aimed to build on the good work already taking place in the selected areas.

In Felling and Inner West Newcastle the focus was on working with children aged two to seven, along with their parents and grandparents, with the aim of improving school readiness.

In Byker and Chopwell the aim was to tackle social isolation, mental ill-health, and low self-esteem in adults.

”In Well Newcastle Gateshead we made the decision that the focus would be on improving engagement and health outcomes in four disadvantaged areas in Newcastle and Gateshead through a focus on participation in the arts and growth of community assets.”

- Professor Chris Drinkwater CBE, FRCGP, FFPH (Hon) Vice-Chair & Blue Stone Lead for Well Newcastle Gateshead

Well Newcastle Gateshead commissioned 4 celebratory events (hereafter known as a ‘parties’), to mark the conclusion of the Well Newcastle Gateshead project in July 2022. This parties were an opportunity to give the 76 participating organisations a chance to get together and share the learning and their experiences with each other. They were planned and led by projects and communities themselves in the 4 WNG target areas.
